But at least Dak Prescott, as flawed as he was that day, is back on the expedition leading the Dallas defense.
The Cowboys made it into week seven of the NFL on Sunday, as the Detroit Lions finished here at AT&T with a 24-6 victory that was fueled in part by the emotional comeback of quarterback Prescott, who is out five weeks after thumb surgery. The most well-tested Cowboy toe pinned, Duck wiped rust to make his way to Dallas and go 5-2 to.
An "impressive" win?
The fans at home didn't think so, at least not because some booed the 6-3 trailing team in the first half.
"Win is to win"? Not pushing Dallas to the top of the NFC East, but the Cowboys, who were on a four-game winning streak with Cooper Rush in QB before losing to the Eagles last week, went on to the weekend as one of four NFC teams with a winning record> so you Kind of "running over the hill".
And defense is the reason as it was in the absence of Duck.
“We have a lot to prove,” said Dallas running behind Ezekiel Elliott ahead of a game in which he will be fighting for two TDs. “We still have to win this score. It is a tough battle at the moment, but we have to fight to get out of it.”
Enemies like the humble lions (now 1-5) can help with this.
But it is Dallas' offense that needs to be "scratched and scraped."
In defense, Dallas simply dominates.
Lions can usually score; They averaged 35 points per game in the first month of the season. Unfortunately for quarterback Jared Goff and Company, the Cowboys didn't buy any of it.
It wasn't about high goalscoring, it was about high defensive density, with the Dallas defense led by Micah Parsons tied up in Detroit (Dallas kicked the top 24 sacks in the league, with a quartet of big sacks (two from rookie Sam. Williams) and two big interceptions (by Travon Diggs and Jordan Lewis) and a monster goal streak.
Oh, and Prescott is taking a step toward one day, maybe soon, to be ready to get his attack back to where it was a year ago.
Even during the unprofitable Duck streak, the Cowboys lacked humiliation and ranked in the bottom 10 of the NFL in most categories. That's a far cry from what it was in 2021 when Prescott-based crime was in the top three in most areas.
And they're not there yet, because this game certainly wasn't all about Dallas' big offensive numbers, even with Duck's late pass from TD to tight end rookie Peyton Hendershot.
But now start promoting, on the stats sheet, sure. But most importantly, attitudes.
“The Dallas Cowboys crime,” wide receiver CeeDee Lamb said as they entered, “is the Dallas Cowboys crime .”
Maybe not yet. But the Dallas Cowboys' defense is the Dallas Cowboys' defense. This is just as important.
